Trauma Informed Yoga

Trauma Informed Yoga

We have all experienced trauma in some way or other. That may be 'big T' trauma or perhaps lots of 'little t' trauma. Trauma informed yoga teaches from the approach of being conscious of trauma, how that trauma can be stored in the body and not just in the mind, and how trauma intersects with practice.

It is my intention that all of my offerings take into consideration that you may have been impacted by the experience of trauma in your life and that I teach with an approach that offers compassion and a space for healing from trauma rather than triggering it.

Trauma-informed yoga is therefore less about how the shapes we make with our body look and more about the embodiment of these shapes. In other words, how that shape feels for you is far more important to me as a teacher than whether it looks like the perfect yoga posture we envisage to be correct. I will of course guide your alignment in terms of physical safety but know that you can change anything to suit you and how you feel on the day. That might be by changing the shape in some way that feels more comfortable for you emotionally, physically or energetically. I want you to feel that the space is free from judgement, that there is no right or wrong and that your practice is just that - yours. I aim to provide you with the invitation to practice in a space where you feel able to choose to explore yoga within your body in an environment that feels as safe and as secure as possible.

My intention and hope when you attend my trauma-informed yoga classes in Nottingham is to create a space where you feel free to move in a way that suits your body on all levels, with a deep understanding that how you feel may change throughout the practice and for you to know that you are wholly welcome to change and adapt your practice at any given moment, within an environment that feels comfortable and predictable. My hope is that you will feel a soft landing into a space where you feel supported in your experience of connecting back to your body so that you can experience any sensations and emotions that arise without feeling triggered or overwhelmed.

My hope is that by stepping bravely into this supported space you can find your way back home to the true essence of you.
