SOLACE
A yoga & wellness programme for female survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence
Developing SOLACE, a trauma informed yoga and wellness programme for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence, seemed a natural progression to bring together my former career in law and public protection and my work and experience with both survivors and perpetrators of domestic abuse and sexual violence alongside the wonderful teachings and benefits of trauma informed yoga, resilience and somatic practices.

Talk therapy can sometimes feel intimidating. By offering multiple pathways to healing with the introduction of trauma informed yoga and embodiment practices, there is an opportunity to find some solace using innate resources, increasing resilience and creating empowerment. The Solace Yoga and Wellness Programme offers participants effective tools, to use both on and off the yoga mat, to support through difficult emotional periods and in the healing process from trauma.
The introduction of embodied yoga and somatic practices can help to re-build union between disconnected and challenging aspects of the self. The SOLACE programme provides a space to regain a sense of agency in the body and offers a safe space to arrive just as you are, breathe, practice, and learn how to regulate the nervous system.

SOLACE is an 8 week layered programme designed specifically with the needs of female survivors in mind. Through the use of trauma, resilience and embodied yoga practices this yoga and wellness programme aims to:

Provide participants the opportunity to:

-
Find peace and healing through trauma informed yoga, resilience and embodiment practices
-
Exercise agency in relation to how they move their body
-
Learn to establish connection to self, trust others, and strengthen relationships
-
Build skills and positive coping strategies for managing painful experiences and for building resilience
-
Establish a sense of solace and stability, creating a sense of feeling safe and at home in the body

During 2022 SOLACE has been commissioned by Women's Aid, locally. In 2023, it will continue to be offered through the VAWG charitable sector, but it will also be available as a privately run small group programme in Nottingham City Centre and via 121 sessions.

"For the first time since I was a child, I feel able to relax with my eyes closed. The voices within feel calmer and softer and I feel safer in my body. This programme has been a life changing wonderful experience" ~ S.
