SOLACE
A yoga & wellness programme for female survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence

SOLACE was created by Donna Navarro and is now delivered through How We Heal CIC as part of its community trauma recovery programme. Donna continues to lead and facilitate the programme on behalf of the CIC. Organisations wishing to commission SOLACE should contact How We Heal CIC. Individuals seeking private therapeutic support can continue to work with Donna independently.

Developing SOLACE, a trauma informed yoga and wellness programme for survivors of domestic abuse and sexual violence, seemed a natural progression to bring together my former career in law and public protection and my work and experience with both survivors and perpetrators of domestic abuse and sexual violence alongside the wonderful teachings and benefits of trauma informed yoga, resilience and somatic practices.

Talk therapy can sometimes feel intimidating. By offering multiple pathways to healing with the introduction of trauma informed yoga and embodiment practices, there is an opportunity to find some solace using innate resources, increasing resilience and creating empowerment. The Solace Yoga and Wellness Programme offers participants effective tools, to use both on and off the yoga mat, to support through difficult emotional periods and in the healing process from trauma.

The introduction of embodied yoga and somatic practices can help to re-build union between disconnected and challenging aspects of the self. The SOLACE programme provides a space to regain a sense of agency in the body and offers a safe space to arrive just as you are, breathe, practice, and learn how to regulate the nervous system.

SOLACE is a small group layered programme designed specifically with the needs of female survivors in mind. Through the use of trauma, resilience and embodied yoga practices this yoga and wellness programme aims to:

Provide participants the opportunity to:

  • Find peace and healing through trauma informed yoga, resilience and embodiment practices

  • Exercise agency in relation to how they move their body

  • Learn to establish connection to self, trust others, and strengthen relationships

  • Build skills and positive coping strategies for managing painful experiences and for building resilience

  • Establish a sense of solace and stability, creating a sense of feeling safe and at home in the body

Trauma is not just a narrative of the past. Its impact on the body’s physiology is far-reaching. SOLACE brings essential evidence based practices that provide alternative forms of healing for survivors to help with:

  • Improved sleep

  • Ability to self-regulate

  • Self-compassion

  • Feel more grounded and stable

  • Greater resilience

  • Rebuilding trust and relationships

  • Improved sense of agency, increased self-confidence and a sense of empowerment

  • Less physical pain in the body

  • Resetting the physiology and regulating the nervous system

  • Improved respiration rates, lower blood pressure, lower heart rate

  • Reducing symptoms of PTSD, depression, anxiety and overwhelm

SOLACE has been commissioned in partnership with local charities since 2022. From 2026, it is now solely offered through How We Heal CIC and all enquiries for group programmes should be directed there.

"For the first time since I was a child, I feel able to relax with my eyes closed. The voices within feel calmer and softer and I feel safer in my body. This programme has been a life changing wonderful experience" ~ S.
